About Church Des ArtistesThe first Baptist Church was commissioned by Thomas Cornell in 1800. https://www.instagram.com/churchdesartistes/ Owned and curated by the artist Julie Hedrick and Composer Peter Wetzler since 1985. https://www.instagram.com/juliehedrickart/ Our Story: Julie and Peter are an artist and composer couple who met in Toronto in 1983. In 1985 they stumbled upon an abandoned church in Kingston while driving back from Toronto to their East Village apartment with a truck filled with Julie's paintings. They pulled into town to get gas. It was love at first sight the rest is history as they say. Kingston is a historic and beautiful town perched on the edge of the Hudson River radiating diversity, story, beauty and a kind of radical individualism that we adore . We were adopted by this unique melting pot city who helped us make following our church dream come true. We made Kingston our home, created an art center called The Center for Arts and Technology, raised our family were deeply honored by the city of Kingston when they presented to us Kingston's first Distinguished Artists Award in 2018-2020. Peter broadcasts a two hour weekly radio show called “Sound Forms: Classical Music and Beyond” from our incredible community based radio station WKNY “Radio Kingston”. Julie has exhibited, curated and collaborated with many local art organizations such as , One Mile Gallery, the OMG Contemporary Art Faire , the Kingston Annual Arts Exhibition, Midtown Arts District , ARTPORTKingston, ART Stream , the Art Society of Kingston , the Dorsky Museum of Art, the Kleinert/James Center of Art in Woodstock . Julie is represented by The Nohra Haime Gallery in New York and The NH Galleria in Cartagena Colombia. We delight in sharing our stories, our church, our art and our city.
